AQA GCSE Religious Studies A - Christian practices: Pilgrimage REVISION

(1)
Part of the Christian Practices paper for AQA GCSE Religious Studies A course. This resource is designed to be delivered as a revision session, in preparation for the upcoming GCSE exams. I will be delivering this to large numbers of students, lecture style, and will be giving students a copy of the slides for them to annotate as I talk.

Inspirational figures in religion

This is a lesson about inspirational figures in religion: Jesus, Muhammad and Guru Nanak. It is mainly an independent lesson, as the main task requires students to read information to create a fact file. This is useful lesson perhaps for tutor time, or an extended project. Can also be used as part of historical Christianity.
Christian pilgrimage

Christian pilgrimage

An interactive PowerPoint presentation, including a video and activities, which can be used at both KS3 and 4. This gives students an introduction to Christian pilgrimage, with reference to Mecca for Muslims, and specific Christian pilgrimage sites. A good resource for historical Christianity or in preparation for retreats or pilgrimages. Can also be used as part of GCSE RS, as it covers practices. A differentiated sheet is also attached. Please comment :)

Sunni and Shia Islam - key differences and exam question focus.

This is a lesson designed to introduce students to the split between Sunni and Shia Islam, as well as some of the key differences and similarities between them in everyday life and practices. This lesson has a key word and exam question focus, following the AQA GCSE 9-1 specification. I have included a 4 mark (part C) exam question, along with guidance about how to answer it and a WAGOLL for students to annotate and compare their answers to. I have created this for Yr8 (as we sit our GCSE RS in Year 10), but can easily be adapted and used for KS4 as it is a useful intro to one of the key Islamic concepts. There is also an accompanying website as one of the slide leads to an external BBC link, which can be used in the classroom to explore 5 different aspects of Muslim life and practices. Students can compete it as you work through. Please do leave feedback :)

KS3 Sikhism assessment based on GCSE skills (life after levels)

This is an assessment based on the GCSE style questioning of the new AQA GCSE 9-1 specification. With the eradication of levels, we are using flight paths based on skills, primarily skills used at GCSE. This assessment is broken down for KS3, and includes sentence starters and a mark scheme. There is also space for feedback from the teacher as well as a personal reflection. The question is: 'Explain 2 ways in which equality is demonstrated in a Gurdwara'.
Muslim attitudes towards women.

Muslim attitudes towards women.

This is a PowerPoint based around Muslim attitudes towards women, and challenging the typical stereotypes that exist. This is aimed for GCSE students, but could be adapted for students lower in the school.
The incarnation of Jesus

The incarnation of Jesus

This is a lesson designed for the new AQA GCSE 1-9 RS specification, but can be used across all exam boards I would imagine. This focuses primarily on the Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament, and Jesus' role as the 'Word'. It also has a slide showing Jesus' role in the salvation of humans. There are differentiated plenary questions at the end.
Creation & The Trinity

Creation & The Trinity

This is a project/analysis based lesson, around the case: Was the Trinity present during Creation? I've created this to challenge students, and in line with the new AQA GCSE 1-9 specification. I think it would be better suited to more able students, but can be adapted and tweaked for lower abilities I'm sure. This lesson includes a PowerPoint and a 'case file' of resources, which students need to read and analyse and come to a 'judgment' about whether or not they think the Trinity was present during the creation in Genesis.

NEW AQA 1-9 GCSE 1 year Sow, homework, key word glossaries & first lessons

I have created a Year 9/10 scheme of work based on the new AQA 1-9 RS GCSE. However, it is split into 2: one for a WEEKLY lesson, and one for a FORTNIGHTLY lesson as we have 3 across the fortnight in Year 9. Weekly lessons deal with component 1, and fortnightly lessons deal with component 2 (themes). I have also produced a term's homework 'menu, as well as PLCs (personal learning checklist using the red/amber/green system) and the first lesson for both component 1 and component 2 are attached. Please do rate and leave feedback :) Many thanks!

SoW for KS3 RS

I have created a scheme of work for KS3 (this is for our year 8s), which links into our three year KS4 GCSE. The exams are taken in Year 10, so year 8 is an important 'prep' year for us. This scheme of work has three themes, and each one is studied from a Christian and Muslim perspective. I have also included: key word glossaries for each unit; PLCs (personal learning checklists using the red/amber/green system) for each unit; and homework 'menus' for the first 2 small terms. Please do rate and eave feedback :) Many thanks!

Abraham's journey - Transition lessons

This is used by my department as a 'transition unit' for new Year 7s. It is centred around the theme of 'journeys', and explores Abraham's journey from Ur to Canaan, and some of the problems he encountered. It encouraged students to think about their own journeys to secondary school, and beyond. Baseline assessment and video questions included.
